58 year old Ernest Anthony Ford, of Madera, CA, was found dead in his home last Friday. Mr. Ford reportedly had long dreamed of helping homeless animals, and had set up an informal rescue operation at his home. The 100 cats found there were well cared for according to Shelter Director Kirsten Gross, and most were removed by Madera Animal Control Monday morning.

The cats were divided between Madera County Animal Shelter and no-kill rescue The Cat House on the Kings. The 45 or so cats at the county shelter are vaccinated and spay/neutered. Some stragglers remained at the house late in the day on Monday and were expected to be removed when they could be crated up.

Cat House on the Kings also has 45 of the cats, which have all been vaccinated and given flea treatments since yesterday. The CHOTK is asking for rescues and adopters to come forward to take some of the cats. They are accepting donations to help with vaccinations, flea treatment, and  spay and neuter services for the cats and said at their Facebook page, “If you can help, please click the DONATE NOW tab on the top right of our Facebook page to make a Paypal donation. Checks can also be sent to the Cat House at 7120 S. Kings River Road, Parlier, CA 93648 (“Madera” in the memo, please.)
