Can’t get enough of cats? Then if you’re ever in the United Kingdom, you’ll want to pay a visit to the Bag o’ Nails pub on St George’s Road in Bristol. In addition to being home to great beer, the Bag o’ Nails pub houses some very special residents: 15 cats.

That’s right – as you enjoy your drink, these friendly pub cats may keep you company – some will even sit in your lap. All of the cats have been born in the pub, and they call the place home. Explains the landlord Luke Daniels, the pub was once home to 24 cats – “but that was too much.”

The focus of the pub is truly on the beer – and the cats, of course. The Bag o’ Nails serves over 100 different brands of beer. Food isn’t yet on the menu, though that might change in the future.

When you walk into this pub, you’ll immediately notice its cozy, welcoming atmosphere. A record player is covered with stacks of records, and space in the pub is cozy, but homey. “It’s a proper old fashioned pub. Coming here is all about beer and talking,” notes Daniels. Occasional live music and quiz nights prove to be popular attractions, but there’s no attraction as great as the cats.

“The reaction is mostly positive,” Daniels explains. “Occasionally you might have some people walking in and leaving and some might be allergic to cats but people love it.”

Known as the “cat pub,” the Bag o’ Nails is a well-known attraction in the area. If you’re ever in Bristol, be sure to stop in and pay a visit to its resident cats.
