August 17, 2012 is Black Cat Appreciation Day – Did you know black cats are only half as likely to get adopted as cats of other colors? And that, on average, they stay several months longer in shelters than any other cats.
We found it very hard to find homes for Buddha’s (our black cat) two brothers when they lived with us. We ended up keeping Buddha! Black cats got a bad rap in the middle ages and it seems to have stuck. We wanted to mention all the myths that state black cats are good luck! Certainly that was the case with us when we ended up with Buddha and his two brother, Zippy and Lucky. Furball Fables was started to try and find homes for the 3 black cats. (You can read he whole story in the description of 3 Lucky Kittens – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NCTxssQPAM) In a way Buddha changed our lives for the better and we are so happy he is one of the Furball Five!
Black Cat Appreciation day was the brainchild of Wayne Morris, who invented the day in honor of his sister who passed away years ago on August 17, and the black cat that she loved. He used social networking to spread the word…and BAM! Black Cat Appreciation Day was born.
