In a country where cats were once revered as gods, many of the street cats of Alexandria, Egypt are living in abject misery and degradation.
Ayda Aly runs Alexandira Cat Rescue in Alexandria, Egypt, where she rescues, feeds, shelters, and provides urgently-needed medical attention to “these poor innocent souls whose only wish is to live along-side us.” Ayda rehomes as many cats as she can, oftentimes to the US and Europe.
A video uploaded to YouTube on June 14 celebrates the rescue, recovery and rehoming of several cats whose lives were turned around in 2012 thanks to Ayda’s efforts.
Adopted Babies in 2012 showcases rescues Shehab, First, Kenzy, Mary, Basha, Kamar and Hogan, and their amazingly transformed lives.
Ayda’s introduction to the video reads (in slightly edited form) : The wonderful babies, after fighting to live here, finally found wonderful mamas and homes. It is my wish for more furry babies to have more chances – there are so so many here who need the chance – and it is my wish that this video may move the rocks a bit, move the hearts to change babies lives to a better one and as a cat should live.
Ayda Aly’s Egyptian Street Cats donation page at YouCaring.com has raised slightly more than $3,200 of its $15,000 goal for the year, and asks donors for the painless amount of $1.
Ayda Aly shares videos of some of her rescued cats at YouTube.
