Police officers from Tempe, Ariz., spent two days trying to rescue a cat trapped in a 3 foot deep storm drain. After various attempts and the use of a humane trap, the cat was safely pulled from the drain on Jan. 13, 2015.
On Sunday, Jan. 11, Tempe police received a phone call about a cat trapped in a storm drain in Elliot Road just west of Price Road. For two days, there were various attempts to try to locate the cat and lure him out of hiding, but officers failed to find the pet.
Two days later, the city of Tempe’s Water Department came to the location and opened a drain cover giving officers and animal rescuers the opportunity to lower a humane trap and safely rescue the kitty.
The trap was filled with tasty cat food and officers took turns throughout their day’s shift to check the trap and see if the cat walked into it.
On the night of Jan. 13, officer Wes Reeder checked the trap and found the feline in it. Immediately, the officer pulled the caged cat from the storm drain and transported the scared kitty to the the Arizona Humane Society.
Officer Reeder told AZ Central News the cat “was not aggressive at all, but it certainly wasn’t happy down there.”
Even though the cat spent two days trapped, he was in good health and had no injuries. The Humane Society evaluated the cat and after determining the pet was friendly, he was made available for adoption.
