The SPCA of Wake County NC visited three recent adopters whose pets play a vital role in their lives. These pets give their families reason to celebrate and enjoy life to the fullest.
The video featuring two cats, a dog and their adopters continues on with an uplifting montage featuring former and current shelter pets who give as much or more to people than they receive.
The three featured pets serve as therapy animals as well as beloved companions.
Sophie was adopted by Sandra, a lady in a wheelchair who says she was always a dog person but came to be a cat lover after she could no longer take care of a dog. Sophie’s companionship is invaluable to her homebound petmom. A special monthly pet food delivery program helps Sandra to care for Sophie.
Annie the dog was in very rough shape when she first came to the Wake County SPCA. Now she lives with a disabled veteran, and the two give much needed comfort and support to one another. Annie’s adopter says he figured that he and the dog had a lot in common and says she has filled a void in his life.
Pepper the cat helps an autistic boy named Jackson, and knows how to calm him down when he has bouts of “uncontrolled frustration.”
As the SPCA says, in closing … “We rescue them and in return they rescue us.”
