Buddy the cat is being credited with saving the life of his petdad when Orlando, FL resident Rick Chap suffered a heart attack earlier this year. Rick’s wife Jennifer Chap was working in her office when Buddy alerted her to the health crisis.

“He was meowing, scratching, and jumping, and just trying to get my attention,” said Jennifer Chap, who picked buddy up and carried him into the kitchen, where her husband was kneeling over the counter and going into a sudden cardiac arrest. Jennifer pulled her husband, who did not appear to be breathing, onto the kitchen floor and gave him CPR using the “Staying Alive” rhythm until paramedics arrived. She told WKMG Orlando news, “I just waited and said a little prayer, and they got a heart beat.”

Rick had a heart procedure, followed by sis months of cardiac rehab at Orlando Regional Medical Center. He is thankful for buddy’s actions, and said “I really really owe my life to Buddy because without him my wife would have never come out of that office.”

“You hear sometimes that animals have these abilities to detect different things,” said Jennifer, who believes she witnessed the ability in animals to detect health crises on that day when Buddy came to her making such a great fuss.

Buddy was a neighborhood stray when he was rescued by the chaps. He seems to have returned their kindness.

On a minor note: Check out the cat and pet magnets and notes all over the Chaps’ fridge, which can be seen in the background in the video.
