Yes, really … Batman and Captain America rescued a cat from a burning home in Milton, WV on Saturday.

Superheroes Batman and Captain America – otherwise known as John Buckland and Troy Marcum – were in costume at an event for children at a nearby American Legion hall when they saw smoke and rushed to the scene of a house fire, entering the burning home to make sure no one was inside.

“I grabbed his shoulders, gave it everything we got and the door opened,” Buckland said.

Buckland was a firefighter before starting his “Hero 4 Higher” business, and took his firefighting skills overseas while stationed with the military in Iraq.

Buckland described saving the kitty after Marcum broke open a window: “The smokes lets out and as I can start to see I reach down and grab something furry!”

Buckland/Batman also resuscitated the cat

“The cat comes around,” Buckland said. “Takes a look at me, then hissed!”

“I just wonder what the cat was thinking,” Buckland said. “I’m glad no one was inside.”

The cat was home alone at the time of the fire.

Firefighters were surprised to find the superheroes in action at the scene of the fire when they arrived.
