Slim was lucky, having been discovered by TSA in Erie, PA. Why anyone would think that packing a 6-month old kitten into a suitcase without food or water, let alone air, is okay is beyond belief. Fortunately, she was retrieved and taken to the Humane Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania.

According to The Smoking Gun, the pair, Olivia Sari and Nicholas Larrison, both 21, spent their holidays in Pennsylvania and were heading back to Tampa, FL, on New Year’s Day.  Transportation Security Administration officials discovered the kitten upon opening the suitcase.  The accompanying photo was taken by a TSA agent.

Ian Bogle, the airport’s director of public safety and facilities, told GoErie.com, “Twenty-eight years I’ve been here. I’ve seen some unique things. I’ve been involved in plenty of unique things. This is a first.”

There ways to transport your pets safely, but whether these individuals, who have been cited, but not yet entered pleas, were aware or not is immaterial. This is cruelty. Thank goodness sensors were triggered during the luggage inspection and Slim was rescued and will soon be with new owners who are responsible.

  1. This is totally animal cruelty. I cannot imagine how that cat will survive in that tight space without air. Maybe the owner of the cat will say “I really don’t know how Slim got there, maybe she is playing around and hide within the clothes, and i just don’t realize it and just pack the bag as usual than zip it off..” All i can say they are drunk. Hope Slim can get responsible owner.
