While it may come as no surprise, seems that pop culture has a decided influence over what we name our newest family members. They went through the 505,270 names (yes, 505,270 names) given to kittens that were born between January 1 and August 31 of 2016. Granted, that still leaves four months unaccounted for, and chances are likely that names from end-of-year television, movie, and celebrity franchises, think Stranger Things and Rogue One, may have displaced a couple, but accuracy aside, this is a pretty interesting collection.

Vetstreet noticed that, unlike humans, gender neutrality is not a trend for kitten names, but classic names, like Kitty, Tiger, and Smokey, are seeing a surge.
