Forever homes can be difficult enough to find, as is, for animals who are healthy and fully-able, so just imagine the challenges that come with those who have special needs. Whether blind, deaf, having some type of syndrome, or something else, they will often get overlooked at shelters. However, these animals have as much love to give as any other, and while there may be issues, for people who have adopted special needs animals, the joy their animal brings to them far outweighs anything else.
It does take a special person to take on a special needs animal, but sometimes, when their personalities are highlighted alongside their challenges, people will flock in droves to step up to provide a forever home. Cats, like Bowtie, Felix, and Emerson, and dogs, such as Joey, Buddha, and Allison, are often highlighted in stories and videos in the hopes of either finding forever homes or educating the public about special needs animals.
If you are looking for a companion, or know someone who is, first and foremost, please ADOPT DON’T SHOP, and take a moment to look at those with special needs. Be sure to ask your local shelter or rescue if you think you are the right person to give a special pet a forever home.
