An online petition in favor of keeping Browser the library cat is taking off, and has garnered almost 10,000 signatures, according to a Facebook page rallying support for the embattled library cat, who was fired from his job by the city council and now faces eviction unless the White Settlement City Council in Texas changes its mind. “I have not one time heard one complaint about the cat whatsoever,” Browser supporter Mayor Ronald A. White told Newsfix. “Hopefully, these guys will reconsider,” he said, referring to the council members who voted evict Browser.
Update: the city council reversed it’s position and Browser will remain on the job! To learn more, read this report on Lifewithcats.
Thanks to extensive media coverage, Browser now has fans from as far away as Hong Kong and South Africa. And locals are rallying to keep the library’s popular mascot. “Browser is a fixture at the library,” Joanne Ingram, a White Settlement resident, told Newsfix. “He’s just a little mascot for the library,” said Joanne Wendt, who also lives nearby. “Everybody loves that cat,” John Emory said.
If you want to lend your support, you can “like” Browser on Facebook and sign the petition.
