Liz Clark did what so many of us would like to do. She quit her job and took off sailing around the world. She was gifted with a Cal 40 sailboat with the provision she record her adventures. Clark headed out in 2006, but it wasn’t until 2013 that she found herself with a first mate. Clark rescued a 6-month old kitten, she christened Amelia.
In an article on Buzzfeed, Clark shared, “She has adapted to living surrounded by water. She’s learned to trust that she will be safe with me.” Amelia, who is occasionally called “Tropicat,” goes with Clark everywhere, from hiking and walking to beach to fishing and canoeing. “She has to go out of a cat comfort zone often,” Clark added. “But I think she now understands that I will keep her safe and she will have a lot of fun in the end. She makes Swell [the yacht] feel much more like a home.”
You can follow the adventures of Amelia and Clark on Instagram. So far they have sailed along the western coast of Mexico, Central America, and parts of the South Pacific.
