An 11 year old 5th grader from Sugar Land, TX is helping her local shelter with a project that encompasses charitable giving, recycling, creativity and innovation, and leading by example.

Shayden Johnson makes cute blinged out cat beds from old computer monitors, sells them for $20 each and donates all of the proceeds to help animals in need at the nearby Rosenberg Animal Shelter. Shayden got the idea when she saw computer monitor cat beds priced at $100 online and realized she could create her own, sell them for much less and help her local shelter with the project. Shayden donates supplies and cash to the shelter with the money earned from the sale of the beds.

“These two women they need help on donations and stuff like that because they have to pay for all the animals there, so I decided to help them out by giving them all my money so they can buy the food, litter and everything that they need,” Shayden said.

Rosenberg Animal Control supervisor Jackie Jurasek said, “I think Shayden is a shining example of what children can do.”

The public spirited 5th grader is also active in school affairs.
