Photo of the kitten posted to Cattleman Western Store at Facebook on December 3, after he was saved from a ditch.

FREE to good home.
Was found in a deep drainage ditch.
Would make a great Christmas present for a child.
Please help us find a good home for this little girl.
She is about 6 weeks old. Thank you.

Marie shares the story of the kitten rescued from a drainage ditch that she took into her home. Pumpkin was rescued in the area of Alvin, Texas at the beginning of December 2012. Marie adopted the kitten after seeing the above photo and caption that was shared after being originally posted at the Facebook page for Cattleman Western Store, in Alvin, where it was uploaded on December 3. The rescuer and his wife mistakenly thought Pumpkin was a ‘she”.

Pumpkin’s story:
.
It was apparent that some evil person had dumped a litter of kittens in a deep drainage ditch near a lake where a man and his son had been fishing. They heard the cry of the kitten and they stopped fishing to go look for it. Found in the deep drainage ditch was this orange kitten covered in mud. They took the kitten to their daughter in law where she cleaned and fed it.
.
The following day the wife of the man who found the kitten posted it on her work Facebook page, Cattleman Western Store. My friend Shelia saw it and shared it on her wall where I saw it and asked about the kitten. I told her that kitten needed me!! She said the kitten was in Alvin, Texas. I went to Cattleman’s Facebook page and watched the post for a few hours. I was hesitant to inquire, being that I was in Dayton, Texas, a  140 mile round trip. I also was hesitant to ask my husband if I could have another kitten.
.
After not seeing any takers I called the store and spoke to the Asst GM. I told her I would love to have the kitten and give it a furever loving home. I had worked a deal with my husband because at first he said no! I said that’s all I want for Christmas is to give that baby the best life ever!!
.
He said he was afraid of our other rescue cat Audi who is what we call our bipolar cat. Never know how she will act mean, wild, crazy or loving. She also was a rescue cat that traveled under my car and was obviously a feral kitten who has not grown completely out of her wildness.
.
After I got the OK I arranged to meet that night to pick up the kitten. I had named the kitten Pumpkin before I actually got him. I say him because later we discovered she was actually a he. Pumpkin appeared to be 4-5 weeks of age and is now 7-8 weeks old. Pumpkin now lives in the home of the Henson’s with 2 older sisters 13 and 14 yrs old and an 8 month old rescue sister who thinks Pumpkin is her baby. She loves to play and clean him which he hates. Pumpkin is a very sweet and loving kitty. Never once did he cry when I picked him up and even until today he only meows when he is hungry. Pumpkin fit in just fine with all the animals including his doggie siblings and has adjusted with our other rescue cat just fine. Pumpkin and Audi both sleep together with me.
.
I was dumped and left to die in a big muddy drainage ditch by evil people. I don’t know how long I was there, but I was rescued and adopted by my new mom who drove 140 miles round trip to come get me.

  1. Great ending to a sad story. Your Audi cat looks like it has a little Bengal marble pattern to her coat. They are both beautiful. Thank you for adopting both of them!

  2. I so love happy endings what a wonderful. Person you are and pumpkin and Audi look so happy and content together,if only there were more caring people like you in this world and shame on those who I call humans very lightly for dumping this precious fur baby
