After a fire destroyed a Winooski, VT apartment building Thursday night, a group of Winooski firefighters found two kittens hiding in the ashes when they went in to turn off the water on Friday morning.
Fire crews were called to the burning building at 8pm on Thursday after they received reports of flames shooting from the structure. Crews were able to begin their search inside the building by 10:30pm but the roof started to collapse at that time.
The kittens were found hiding beneath a sofa in the basement level apartment the next morning.
The firefighters took the wet and cold kittens to a nearby auto shop to warm up, then cuddled and fed them there. The kittens are staying at a vet’s office until their family can reclaim them.
The rescuers were thrilled to be able to locate and save the two kittens.
