Sponge Bob posed with benefit chair Edie Falco on the purple carpet for Animal Haven’s Performance for the Animals event before bowing out of the spotlight and going home with his new family last night. The big boy has been adopted.

Sponge Bob posed for photographers Thursday night in his last public appearance before going to his new forever home. Sponge Bob, who gained fame as an extra-large shelter cat,  has been in the care of Animal Haven in NYC since April, as his caregivers worked to help him lose weight and get fit while trying to find him a home.

Sponge Bob’s new petparents Courtney and Matt Farrell fell in love with Bob and filled out adoption paperwork last Sunday afternoon. The adoption was finalized after a few days and the happy new family posed together at last night’s performance benefit for Animal Haven before heading home.

Bob will not be out of the spotlight entirely; he can be followed at the tumblr blog site devoted to him, No More Sitting Pretty.

The 2nd Annual Performance for the Animals event raised money for Animal Haven while celebrating the shelter’s 10,000 adoptions.

  1. One of the most amazing stories of love, advocacy and adoption ever to happen! Sponge Bob is a beautiful boy with a great personality and his new family are blessed! This is wonderful coverage!!

  2. I have been following Sponge Bob for some time and I must say I fell in love with him. While I’m sad to see him go for selfish reasons, I am very happy he has found a loving forever home. What a great finish to this amazing story.
