Thanks to a group still on the ground in Shawnee, OK, nearly three months after disaster struck, a displaced cat named Toby was trapped and returned to his petmom this week.

AUGUST 11 ~ “Toby is HOME!! Missing since his house was destroyed in the May 19th tornado, he is finally back in the arms of his mommy. This is all thanks to one of the NKRER traps, purchased with donations from YOU, our supporters. This is why we never give up. No pets left behind.”

Colorado based No Kill Rapid Emergency Response (N.K.R.E.R. ) has been on the ground since the tornado saving animals and helping families in the disaster zone outside of Shawnee, Oklahoma. They rescued Toby and reunited him with his petmom, and made the happy announcement at their Facebook page on Sunday.

While most of the attention following the tornadoes that swept through Oklahoma this May has been focused on Moore, where an F5 twister hit on May 20, N.K.R.E.R. has devoted their efforts to Shawnee, which was visited by disaster the day before.

N.K.R.E.R. responded on Sunday to a question at Facebook by a commenter who was surprised to learn that the group is still helping out in Shawnee, saying: “Of course we are still here… Still working. We will be for as long as we are needed, and until all the ones we have in our care go home.”

We have established a temporary shelter in Steelman Estates and currently have 20 animals in our care. We have distributed over 20,000 lbs of pet food and supplies since we arrived, and are continuing to trap displaced animals and are getting them HOME. We need your help to keep going. There are a lot of animals still lost out there, many with loving families who are trying to get them back. – See more at:
