Max is Back: Cat Missing For a Year Found 200 Miles From Home

Max went missing from his Visalia, CA home a year ago and was recently found 200 miles away. Yesterday, the woman who found Max and searched for his owner brought him back to his home.

Beki Osborn called the microchip company when her cat Max disappeared, but that avenue led nowhere until Karin and Phillip Gallagher found him when he turned up at their Carmichael, CA home. Karin acted responsibly by trying to find the person who was missing the cat so he could go back to his home. She fed the cat for a few days as she checked Craigslist ads and searched her neighborhood for someone who was missing a cat. She took the cat to be scanned for a microchip, and the mystery was solved. After making arrangements with Beki, Karin and Phillip drove the 200 miles to safely deliver Max to his home.

Max’s microchip was crucial to getting him identified and returned home. Equally important, the woman who found him went out of her way to discover who was missing him and where he came from. Karin did everything right, and had Max scanned within a few days of his turning up at her home. We have seen many stories where a stray cat hangs around an area for years before getting sick and being taken to a vet, where he is finally scanned and identified as someone’s missing pet.

  1. WOW! What a great story with a very happy ending! Everyone should get their cats microchipped. Thanks to Karin for all she did to locate the owner. It is due to her that the kitty got back home. 🙂

  2. I agree 100%- microchipping is a safe, painless, and inexpensive action that can save you and your fur baby a ton of heartache. Kudos to Karin for going the extra mile to care, sadly not everyone does nor cares enough to do so.
