A beautiful young mama cat and her two kittens were rescued when a Good Samaritan found them sealed into a plastic recycling bin in a field. They are now safe in the care of a vet hospital.

A woman walking her dogs at Sawbridgeworth, near Bishop’s Stortford in Hertfordshire UK,  spotted the blue bin, which was taped shut and had a large brick or stone block weighing down the cover.  The bin had been dumped in some tall grass, and the woman discovered it when her dogs went over and started sniffing around it.

According to a story in the Herts and Essex Observer: “[The container] had a big boulder on the top of it and it was taped up,” said the woman, who prefers to withhold her name.

“I wasn’t going to open it but the dogs were so focused on it that I did and I found three young cats inside.

“When I opened the box it was filthy. I had to ring a friend to come and collect the dogs because they didn’t like the cats.”

The Good Samaritan took the cats home, fed them and took them to be checked out at the nearby Bishop’s Stortford Veterinary Hospital, where it was determined that the three were a mother and her two children, who had probably been trapped in the bin for three days.

The kittens are about 12 weeks old and mama is still practically a kitten herself, at less that a year old.

The Good Samaritan is quoted in the paper saying, “The way I found the recycling bin they didn’t have a chance. Disposing of animals in this way has to stop; it’s not the way animals should be treated. The owner’s treatment of those cats was disgusting. They left them there to die.”

Bishop’s Stortford Veterinary Hospital cleaned up the kitties and gave them a health check; thankfully all seem to be healthy and are doing well.  Mama and her kittens are staying at the hospital and will soon be looking for new homes.
