Magic Mike was rescued a few weeks ago, after a Good Samaritan in San Antonio saw him being thrown from a fast moving car. He came into the care of Wayward Whiskers Cat Rescue which has gotten him lifesaving surgery, with help from the community.
In addition to having a broken tail and leg but, more troubling, Mike suffered from a diaphragmatic hernia that allowed his intestines to move up into the chest cavity and push on his lungs. The kitten became less active and developed labored breathing, and the vet said he could go into cardiac arrest unless he had surgery to correct the condition.
Thanks to Wayward Whiskers and its founder Sherry Pfau, to publicity from the local Fox affiliate’s news coverage, and to the generosity of the local community, Mike was able to get his surgery on July 15 before his condition went downhill.
We shared Mike’s story in Magic Mike: Kitten Thrown From Moving Car Gets Help on July 15, after his surgery was deemed successful.
Mike continues to improve and is doing great thanks to his lifesaving surgery.
Magic Mike poses in the photo at top with his surgeon, highly regarded feline specialist Dr. Gary D. Norsworthy of Alamo Feline Health Center in San Antonio, Texas. He is a reportedly kitten transformed. As the photo’s caption states: “Mike is a different cat now. He’s playful and active and eating like a horse. Such an improvement from just a few days ago! Thank you Dr. Norsworthy!!”
According to a Fox29 update from Wednesday, July 17, the station’s boradcast from last week helped bring in donations for Mike’s surgery, and he will be ready for adoption before long.
