Dan Shaw holds Mimi, a 2-pound, 4-ounce domestic shorthair rescue kitten, Thursday, March 26, 2015, in Elkhart. Mimi had been discovered in an Edwardsburg mailbox before finding her way to the Shaws' home three weeks ago. "That's what everybody finds ironic, is she was found in a mailbox and then rescued by another person," Dan Shaw said, "then rescued and taken in by a mail carrier." (Nick Gonzales/The Elkhart Truth)

Mimi the kitten was found in an Edwardsburg, Michigan mailbox. After being taken in by a rescue, she has since found a new home just over 10 miles away in Elkhart, Indiana, with retired mail carrier Danny Shaw.

A woman found Mimi when she heard meows and cries coming from a row of mailboxes and opened each one in order to find the trapped little kitty.

Debbie McKinney had gone out to collect her mail when she discovered the kitten, who weighed only a little more than 2 pounds.

The kitten was taken in by Here Kitty, Kitty Rescue in Elkhart, and ended up being adopted by retired letter carrier Danny Shaw.

“That’s what everybody finds ironic, is she was found in a mailbox and then rescued by another person,” Dan told The Elkhart Truth , “then rescued and taken in by a mail carrier.”

Mimi’s adopter talks about her rescue and the special connection between her resce in a mailbox and being adopted by a former mailman:
