Kalamazoo, MI firefighters rescued several cats from a house fire early Saturday night.
Kalamazoo homeowner Jamie Kipp and her two teenagers made it out of their house when fire broke out at about 7pm this evening. Jamie called her husband to come home after she and the kids were outside.
The family is thought to have seven cats, including a litter of kittens. Firefighters brought most of the cats out to safety but a couple were unaccounted for shortly after the fire was put down. The cats were taken to a neighbor’s house. The family dog got out on its own.
There was rejoicing from family and onlookers as firefighters brought out a gray cat that the father of the family hugged before sending it to the neighbor’s.
“It’s good to see smiles,” neighbor Susan Chapman said. “Even the firefighters were smiling.”
Chapman said “They need to get that black cat to a vet,” after she was unable to get her car out to do so herself.
