Esperanza was injured, yet cared for Jacob as if he were one of her pups when they were rescued together. They were adopted together and are still closely bonded.

A very special reunion visit to the Edmonton Humane Society shelter took place recently, as a special dog and cat, Esperanza and Jacob, returned to the shelter that helped them. It’s been more than a year since stray Esperanza the dog was found in central Alberta nursing a litter of puppies and Jacob the kitten even though Esperanza was in extreme pain with a severe leg injury. The pair along with their adoptive mom visited the EHS staff members and volunteers to thank them for all that was done.

Here is the original and widely seen video from December, 2010, shortly after Esperanza, the puppies, and 4 month old Jacob kitten were brought to EHS after being found near Red Deer, Alberta, by the small rescue group “For the Love of Dogs”. Esperanza was suffering from a badly broken back leg, and she was found trying to survive, along with her litter of 5 puppies and… the kitten. Jacob was quickly weaned, but had some tummy troubles at first.
