Kitten Rescue  Los Angeles volunteer Sandra Harrison is running for Amigo … . She is running in the 2014 Los Angeles Marathon for Amigo and the thousands of other cats her organization saves, helps, fosters and rehomes.

You may remember Amigo from earlier this year when photos of him laying in a banana box with his face and feet bound in red duct tape made the news across the US and beyond.

Amigo was bound and gagged with the tape and left in the covered box in the parking lot of the Baldwin Park, CA animal shelter one day last April. He nearly suffocated to death, and was severely traumatized. He was scared, confused, and afraid to trust.

The shelter turned Amigo over to Kitten Rescue, which could be relied upon to give him the best of loving and responsible care.  He went into foster care with a volunteer named Cathy, who has worked with him to gain his trust. He has made little steps toward trusting, such as on October 1, when Cathy wrote at Facebook: “Amigo just got on the bed and laid down near my feet. First time!”

Amigo may never trust anyone but his foster mom, but she and Kitten Rescue are prepared to care for him for the rest of his days if that’s what will serve him best.

Amigo’s caregiver Cathy maintains the Amigo’s New Life Facebook page, where his healing journey and his day-to day life are chronicled.

Here is Amigo’s story, as told by Sandra Harrison:

Sandra writes:

Help Kitten Rescue help more animals like Amigo by donating to my fundraising page, Sandra Harrison’s Fundraiser: Team Kitten Rescue in the 2014 ASICS LA Marathon.

I will be doing the 5K Cat Strut on March 8th to raise money to save homeless animals of Los Angeles.

I have been a volunteer with Kitten Rescue since 1998. I have rescued thousands of animals, with the help of this wonderful organization. Kitten Rescue places around 1000 cats a year into loving homes and provides lifetime care for the animals in their care who are not placed.

Please join me by running or walking or donating to this wonderful cause.

Kitten Rescue is an official charity of the Asics La Marathon, March 8 & 9, 2014.
