A Broward Sheriff’s Fire/Rescue crew from Platform 81 in Broward County, FL rescued a kitten trapped in the engine of a Mercedez-Benz on Monday and caught the moment on video as the kitten was successfully pulled to safety. The rescue took place in Weston, just west of Fort Lauderdale.
According to the car’s driver, the kitten was trapped for three hours before they called the rescuers, who quickly responded to the scene with a four man crew.
Broward County Sheriff’s Department information officer Mike Jachles said a woman called for help at around 5pm, reporting she’d heard what sounded like a kitten crying from under the hood of her car for the past three hours.
The responding firefighters tried to coax the kitten out for a half hour before resorting to a water spray with mild pressure, which got the kitten moving within the engine compartment so it cold be pulled to safety. Rescue unit driver Deputy Albert Seidenstucker carefully lifted the kitten from the car.
The short video ends endearingly with Deputy Seidenstucker holding the newly rescued kitten, saying: “Let’s be friends, okay? Are you hungry?”

Our youngest cat, Cody (now 2 years old) was rescued from inside a coworker’s car engine compartment. She brought him to work and my intent was to foster him but he grew attached to me (and I to him) so we decided to make him part of our feline family. He’s a big love now. 🙂
