A beautiful young cat currently being called Fiona was rescued in Brooklyn, NYC last weekend, thanks to the combined efforts of an Animal Care and Control supervisor and officers from the NYPD.
The kitty was trapped underground in a storm drain beneath a heavy iron grate that sat under a parked car. The rescuers moved both the car and the grate, then safely captured the cat with a trap.
Kitty is waiting for her owners to claim her at the Brooklyn facility of the NYC ACC. It is important to remember that her actual name, assuming she is someone’s missing pet, is not likely to be Fiona.
If kitty is not claimed by her family she will be available for adoption on Wednesday. At that time, rescuers or an adopter will need to come forward to ensure that she finds safety in foster care or a new home. No one wants to see her end up on the euth list after the effort expended to save her. “Fiona”‘s reference number is A0983954.
Animal Care and Control of NYC (AC&C) wrote about Fiona’s rescue at Facebook, saying:
“Fiona, a beautiful orange and white kitty of about seven months, was rescued from a sewer over the weekend!
“When AC&C Field Supervisor Kevin arrived at the location at E. 16th St. and Shore Parkway, he found a car parked over the sewer grating. He contacted the NYPD for help to jack up and move the SUV, and then they were able to open the grate.
“Eventually, Fiona went into the trap, and was brought to AC&C’s Brooklyn Care Center. She’s still on stray wait, as we hope her owner will come forward. If no owner is identified (unfortunately she has no ID) this cutie will be available for adoption Wednesday.
