Chase Holiday, video creator and loving petparent to the Furball kitties, cares about black cats and black cat adoption, and she is one of the many animal lovers who celebrate Black Cat Appreciation Day on August 17 every year.

Chase has uploaded her annual black cat celebration video, and writes:

“In honor of Black Cat Appreciation Day, which is August 17th, Furball Fables asked their viewers on facebook and Youtube to share pictures and video’s of their black cats. We were blown away by the response. Black Cat awareness continues to grow every year, with many shelters celebrating the day with black cat adoption. Surprisingly many people are not aware of the stigma that still goes along with black cats. Black cats are the least likely to be adopted at shelters. They are portrayed as bad luck, and the spooky Halloween cat. Furball Fables continues to promote Black Cats adoption. We feel they are beautiful, lucky and just as lovable as any other kitty. One of the Furball cats, Buddha came into our home 5 years ago and life was never the same!

“Black Cat Appreciation day was created by Wayne Morris, who invented the day in honor of his sister who passed away years ago on August 17, and the black cat that she loved. You can visit Wayne’s Facebook page For the Love of Black Cats (Black Cat Appreciation Page) The page was created to bring awareness to the world about the joy of living with a black cat, to dispel myths about black cats, and to help black cats across the globe get out of shelters alive.”

Black Cat Appreciation Day was created by Wayne as an online event a few years back by and since then it has taken on a life of its own. It is now celebrated by cat lovers, animal organizations and shelters far and wide. Wayne continues to host yearly online Black Cat Appreciation Day August 17th celebration events at Facebook.

Chase introduces her video, giving some thanks and making special note of a few kitties who have recently passed and gone to the Bridge . She writes: “Starring 52 Black Cats! Please consider adopting a Black Cat when adopting a new family member! We want to especially thank to Black Cat Appreciation Group!!!! on facebook who submitted so many pictures of their beloved black cats. Also the black cats that live at the Katzenhaus,( Where our human works) Kitten Gunnar, Squiggy and Spooky. ( RIP) Blacat and Penelope (RIP) live down the street. Thank you to our youtube friends who let us use footage of their lucky black Cats!”

Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day!
