A Bakersfield, CA cat was finally rescued today after several days up a tree and several failed attempts.  Concerned residents, firefighters, animal control and a private security services company all pitched in to help.

We first saw the story in the news on Tuesday, after local residents has spent several days trying to help the cat, which had been stuck up a tall tree for nearly two weeks after being chased up it.  With a local TV news crew also on the case, the Kern County Fire Department and and Kern County Animal Control came out to the scene on Tuesday and made attempts to get the cat. At one point, a the cat got spooked and climbed higher when a ladder was placed against the tree.

Wednesday night, Marvin Fuller and Mike Caudillo from M&S Security Services of Bakersfield came out in their boom truck and tried to rescue the cat. That attempt also failed.

This morning, M&S Security was back at it, and successfully made the rescue. KERO ABC23 TV has followed the story over the course of the efforts, and was on hand today as the kitty was brought safely down.

The cat, called Piney, is now at Kern County Animal Services. A series of photos at the Kern County Animal Services Facebook page show the cat getting checked out after his ordeal.

Piney is being treated for dehydration, but is otherwise in good shape. He is a neutered male, but does not have a microchip. He is expected to be available for adoption in a few days.

KCFD assisted with a very large ladder and attempted to set it up to get Piney out of the tree. Unfortunately, Piney was startled and climbed higher into the tree. Animal Control Officers along with several members of the public continued to monitor Piney and provide food and water over the next several days in the hopes that Piney could be lured down out of the tree.

On Halloween morning, Piney was safely rescued from the tree with the help of M & S Security. M & S Security worked with Animal Control Officers and used their own vehicle with a lift to reach Piney and safely hand him over to KCAC staff. THANK YOU M & S Security for caring about Piney and making a difference! Piney is seen here after being rescued.
