A 2 year old kitty whose petmom says is usually a fraidy-cat found her courage and scared a black bear away from her family’s home on Sunday.

Eagle River, Alaska resident Darliss Elliott told KTUU Channel 2 news she is aware that bears and moose are often nearby, so it was not a total surprise when the bear showed up Sunday afternoon.

As a video of the incident shows, the bear came right up to a glass door where he was met by the family’s little house cat, Nani, who lunged at the glass and scared him off.

Darliss says Nani crouched in a stalking pose before making the lunge toward the bear.

Darliss said: “She’s really such a fraidy-cat most of the time, I don’t know what got into her. She probably wouldn’t have lunged if we weren’t standing right behind her.”

“The bear came up our front drive way and walked around the house to the back.”

“We were all kind of watching him as he came up the back porch and that’s when Nani saw him.”

“She was watching him until he turned his face to the door, and that’s when she pounced.”

“We were all really surprised that she lunged at him, but we were more surprised that it scared him enough to fall of the porch,” Elliott said.

The family has not seen the bear since.
