Pittsburgh, PA rescue organization Animal Friends continued an annual New Year’s Eve tradition today by saving the lives of dozens of adoptable Western Pennsylvania shelter pets who were scheduled for euthanization.
Animal Friends says: “Every year, Animal Friends reaches out to local animal control centers and overwhelmed animal shelters to offer a new lease on life to pets in need of a second chance.”
Animal Friends saved 55 lives today, 32 of them belonging to cats.
This year’s theme is “Dr. Seuss” and each animal will be given a name derived from a Dr. Seuss story.
The rescued cats and dogs will be vaccinated, bathed, groomed, given a medical and behavioral evaluation and scheduled for spay/neuter surgery if necessary before being made available for adoption. Most of the animals will be available later this week.
Some of the beautiful companion animals who were saved today are seen in the photos below.
