It is hard enough when we humans have to deal with the loss of a loved one, regardless of whether a friend or family member walks on two legs or four, but how our pets deal with that same issue can be a mystery. There are countless stories of animals who continue to demonstrate their loyalty, even after someone with whom they have bonded has passed away. Examples of unconditional love.
One Life With Cats reader, Jimmy Hand, was so moved by the story Love Knows No Species: Husky Takes Charge of Tiny Rescue Kitten, that he shared the following with us:
My Malamute girl Kianna did this with the kitten we adopted after her mother died, best friends they were (NOTE: referring to the dog in the story who raised an orphan kitten).
Poor Kianna passed away 11 years ago now, but we still have Rocket the cat. She gained two new Malamute friends along the way, Tallullah and Skoll, but old mate Skoll passed away last year.
Life With Cats this is a video I took the day after old mate Skoll passed away. Tallullah is lying on his blanket, obviously missing her mate, but what Rocket the cat did next brought my wife and I to tears 😭
Thank you, Jimmy,. We are so sorry for your loss, but so appreciative of your kindness in sharing your story with all of us.
