A gutsy Good Samaritan made the news when she dove off her water bike to rescue a kitten that had fallen into a river in Tampa, Florida.
A video aired on Fox News 13 shows the moment when the anonymous woman, dubbed a “cat hero” plunged into the river and swam to the aid of the kitten. The video was recorded by a bystander, Josh Page of St. Petersburg, according to the Fox News 13 report.
To their credit, Tampa police had been trying to rescue the kitten, which was perched between the concrete rails of a bridge. While other officers looked for a net, one of them tried to grab the kitten, but it backed up and fell 30 feet and hit the water with a splash.
That’s when the woman on a water bike peddled over, dove off, and swam toward the kitten. She got her hands on the frightened feline, but it squirmed away. Undeterred, she managed to grab it again and carry it back to the water bike while onlookers cheered.

The terrified kitten got away a third time, leaping from the bike, but its rescuer would not give up. She got back in the water and managed to scoop up the soaking wet kitten and hold onto it. Meanwhile, a boat arrived and passengers in the boat helped the two out of the river. Apparently the rescuers in the boat adopted the kitten, and have named it Lucky.
