When an Oxford couple was told they couldn’t install a cat door in the home they were renting, they came up with a rather creative solution. Tariq Khoyratty, a scientist, created a special ladder which would allow the couple’s orange cat to enter the home through a second-story window. His girlfriend, Nikki Wheeler, planned the project.
The couple weren’t sure whether their cat, Nelson, would use the ladder, so Khoyratty created a smaller trial version of the ladder before completing the full-size project. Tom took to the smaller ladder easily, so Khoyratty created the large ladder, complete with rungs to give Nelson some extra security while he climbed. With some treats and coaxing, Nelson learned to use the large ladder, too.
Today, Nelson uses the ladder regularly. It’s secured to the second-floor bedroom window with a bungee cord, and Nelson both enters and exits the house via the ladder. The couple don’t have to worry about being on hand to let Nelson in and out, and Nelson can enjoy his freedom without any restriction.
