For many, pets are family members and, as with any family member, the hope is they will have long, healthy lives. Cream Puff, of Austin, Texas, who was born on August 3, 1967, and passed away on August 6, 2005, at the ripe-old-age of 38 years and 3 days, still holds the record, but Corduroy has the current living record.
Born on August 1, 1989, in Sisters, Oregon, Corduroy has been with his owner, Ashley, since she was 6 years of age. she can still recall with excitement the ride to get her new kitten. Now, at 26 years and 119 days as of November 27, 2015, the equivalent of 124 cat years, Corduroy is still going strong. Longevity seemed to be in his family as his brother, Batman, also adopted by the Reed family, lived to age 19. The average age for cats is about 15.
Ashley considers herself lucky to have such a true companion. Proud that he has the Guinness World Record title of World’s Oldest Living Cat, she happily shares him with the world.
Meanwhile, back in Austin, it is interesting that his owner, Jake Perry, was also the owner of Grandpa Rex Allen who had been the title holder prior to Cream Puff. Must be something in the water.
