It’s no secret that more attention need to be brought to shelter cat adoption, and that’s exactly the issue that New York photographer Shaina Fishman is taking on. Fishman paired with wardrobe stylist and rescue advocate Ryen Blashke to create the unforgettable “Cats In Hats” series.

Blashke had originally created hats for her own cats, and she draws on this as inspiration for the series. Blashke creates each piece by hand, and references notable pop culture icons including Robin Hood, Minions, Harry Potter, and Maleficent. Fishman specializes in taking pet portraits, and with Blashke’s unique cat hats, the subjects of Fishman’s photos become attention-grabbing.

Brooklyn Animal Action helps to supply Fishman and Blashke with feline models who are all in need of forever homes. Then, the women get to work, outfitting the cats with their hats and taking photos which capture each cat’s personality.
