Andrea Duvall of Woodland, Washington shared her story onMonday, Oct. 13, 2014, telling how she and others saved a kitten from the depths of the engine compartment in her car. Thanks to the generous help of Mark Hughes at the Les Schwab tire center, the kitten was finally removed from the car and appears to be healthy and happy.
Andrea’s car was parked in the garage all weekend before she got ready to leave for work at about 4:30 a.m. Monday morning. She heard meows apparently coming from the car, then searched the vehicle, along with her husband, to no avail. She called the fire department, but firefighters couldn’t find the cat, either.
When the kitten still had not been found by 8:00 a.m., Andrea called Les Schwab and made arrangements to bring the car in for a thorough search.
After driving slowly to Vancouver, Andrea stopped at the Les Schwab garage, where her Audi was put up on the lift and Mark Hughes meticulously searched and dismantled parts from the car until the little kitten was found.
Andrea says she cried tears of relief and Mark grinned when the kitten was safely brought out from inside her car’s engine compartment. He was freed from the car at no charge.
“It’s crazy that he didn’t give up,” she said. “Like he would’ve just died in there if the Les Schwab guy hadn’t taken my whole car apart.”
Kitty was a bit dirty and had a slightly injured paw, but is said to be otherwise unharmed. Andrea fed the very hungry cat and cleaned him up. She says none of her neighbors are missing a kitten and, if no one comes forward to claim him, she will give Mark Hughes first dibs. Otherwise, she has friends who have offered to give the kitten a good home.
The kitten is thought to have been trapped in the sealed garage all weekend and Andrea says she does not know when he got in to the garage or her car.
Andrea calls the little rescued kitten “our miracle kitty.”
