An Albuquerque, New Mexico woman is relieved to have her two stolen hairless Sphynx cats back home with her, safe and sound.

Albuquerque police say the two cats were targeted in a burglary at their home on August 21 in which the thief or thieves took only the cats. The cats’ petmom reported the burglary to police, and officers took a report but had no leads on the case.

“The burglary itself was just the cats, somebody entered her residence, stole the cats and she reported it right away,” said officer Simon Drobik.

“They’re very unique cats obviously, hairless cats,” said officer Drobik.

The worried woman searched the area for her missing cats and posted about the burglary online. She was eventually contacted by a friend who said she’d seen the cats in someone’s window.

Police went to the home and  found the missing cats, then reunited with them with their petmom.

“Looking through the window I was surprised to see two hairless cats, it’s not everyday you see something like that,” said officer Drobik.

The person who had the cats got them from someone else, and police think the felines changed hands a few times after they were stolen.  With the Sphynx cat an expensive breed, it is likely that the cats were sold. Police did not charge the person in possession of the cats.

Officer Drobik is seen on cell phone video getting a high-five from one of the cats.

“I was just messing with the cat and it happened to do that!” said officer Drobik. “So weird and cute.”

Police say they are glad they were able to reunite the two stolen cats with their owner.
