Attleboro, MA firefighters quickly knocked down a second floor apartment fire on Friday, April 18, 2014. Several pets were rescued from the four family building, including Shailyn Evers’ cat, Sniffy. Attleboro firefighter John Dipaolo carried Sniffy out of his burning home and placed him gently on the ground, giving him soothing pats. Sniffy was meowing and noticeably upset, but was picked up and comforted by Shailyn, who had escaped her first floor apartment with her two children and the family dog. The family has two other cats who also survived the fire but were unaccounted for immediately afterward.

The Evers apartment is located directly beneath the apartment where the fire broke out, and the family was alerted to the fire by their smoke detectors.

Attleboro police officers assisted in the rescue effort and placed some of the apartment building’s pets in carriers once they were outside.
