Lisa Bennet is one of a few concerned cat lovers who have contacted us about an effort to return a cat to the family who searched long and hard for her.

A group working with ferals trapped a cat who went missing from her family’s RV a few years ago.  The family came back to search for her but the rescuers cannot locate them now that their cat has been found.

Those trying to find this cat’s family and send her home need help from their fellow cat lovers in getting her networked and her story shared.

Lisa writes:

My name is Lisa Bennett and I live in Dupont, WA where I work with a volunteer group-Community Cat Outreach-that traps and spays/neuters cats.  We were contacted by the Elma Travel Inn back in February to trap a few “feral” cats.  One of the cats we trapped ended up not being feral at all, it was the pet of a couple who had been staying there in their RV 2-3 years ago.  The cat had gotten out of the RV and the couple had returned to the park for an entire year trying to spot/catch her.  We are on a mission to try to reunify this cat with her RV family.  Unfortunately, she is not microchipped, so we are having a tough time linking the two.

We checked at the park last Monday and they had no information to help.  The park is split into two sections, an upper section for long term residents who own their space and a short term park over the hill for people who just want to stay short term.  The cat was lost in the short term area and found in the long term area.  Two of the long term residents at the park recognized the cat as the one that had been lost, and so we have began this search trying to find the couple the cat belongs to.  The residents said that the couple had posted flyers at the park when the cat was lost. Unfortunately, the park did not keep a flyer and K/M Resorts has offered minimal response to my requests to help us get this information out.  This is why I am contacting you.

The family is thought to live in Seattle and their son lived near Montesano at the time they camped there.  One of the park residents had spoken with them and remembered this information.  I am not sure if they were guests or K/M members.  While in the area last week we visited both RV parks, vet offices, feed and seed stores, groomers, gas stations, restaurants, the chamber of commerce, grocery stores, the police department, and countless other places to post flyers and trying to put this puzzle together.  We have also contacted papers in Seattle, Olympia, Montesano, Elma, and cat rescue groups in all four areas, lost cat websites, as well as every WA RV campground with a FB page, K/M who owns the campground (no records there) and an RV online forum.  Posts have been made to at least 100 Facebook pages, online newspaper archives have been searched, and we are still at a dead end.  We also have a Facebook group: Find Maddy’s Family

We do not have any names or info to additional info to find this family.  We know it is a long shot but wanted to try to reunify before we place her for adoption.  The cat is extremely shy and very scared still, we doubt she would have approached any humans during her time on her own.  We have talked with just about everyone we can and just the two ladies remember this family.  Sadly, after all this time, it seems everyone has moved on.

We are desperate to get the girl we are calling “Maddy” home.  Any help you can give us is greatly appreciated.

  1. Do the people remember what kind of RV they had?? I wonder if they might be a member of some clubs for RV enthusiasts (sometime they form clubs based in the type of RV) or if you could track them down through RV dealers?? In any case, it might be worthwhile to send this info to RV enthusiasts in the area.

  2. Hi Suzie, We have contacted an extensive list of RV groups, forums, sites, etc. with no luck thus far. Please check our file on Facebook for a complete listing. We are working every angle to try to get this girl home. Thanks!

  3. Leanna, all four you mentioned have been contacted, plus additional media outlets. Only takers thus far are The Daily World which serves the area where the cat was lost/found and King5.com The Pet Dish. We are planning to send a press release out this week and make another attempt. The feedback I am getting is there is concern about setting a precedent by running this lost pet story. Thanks for your suggestions!

  4. The rv park has a facebook site back to 2010. If anyone remembers what the couple looked like maybe the coupe friended the site and someone looking at the friends of the rv park could recognize them?
