A massive fire that ravageded a neighborhood as it swept through the Windsor Green housing complex in Carolina Forest, SC and damaged or destroyed 26 buildings last weekend did not take any human life but has been a tragedy for residents’ pets. Many pets have been missing since the fire and are thought to have perished, though some pets are now being found alive and are being reunited with their families.
The Grand Strand Humane Society Facebook page is sharing lost, found, reunited and, sadly, Rainbow Bridge photos to help residents and the community reunite pets from the fire and deal with the crisis.
The Humane Society wrote at their page: “If you live the in the area from Carolina Forest Blvd, Hwy 501, Garner Lacy Rd please be on the lookout for pets that may have escaped the fire and are fleeing the fire. They will be scared and may be injured. Please do what you can to help them if you see them. VCA Palmetto Animal Hospital on 501 is open 24 hrs should you find an animal that needs immediate medical attention. Please pray for those who have lost their homes and for the animals that were in the apartments.”
VCA Palmetto is also helping with the lost and found effort by posting notices and photos of animals at their front desk.
Residents have also used Craigslist to post about their missing pets.
Pets Inn Paradise Island is offering to assist the families with pets that were burned displaced by the fire by boarding their dogs or cats at no charge for a week.
Several people have offered to give puppies and kittens Windsor Green residents whose animals have perished. Staff at VCA Palmetto animal Hospital is reminding the public that those offering pets need to remember that individual pets are family members and are not replaceable.
