Bisou, the 3,400 Mile Stowaway Cat

Bisou with Mike, from Calagran Quarantine Kennels

A 7 year old Persian cat from Cairo, Egypt is taking an extended holiday in England after slipping into her guardian’s luggage and going unnoticed by security and airline personnel at both ends of her 3,400 mile journey between the two countries.

Bisou hopped into Mervat Ciuti’s luggage for a nap at her home in Cairo, Egypt as the woman packed to visit her sister Monica in Nottinghamshire, UK. Then Mervat unwittingly zipped her pet into her luggage and locked the case as she rushed to get a cab waiting to take her to the airport.

Bisou slipped unnoticed through security at Cairo and was stacked into the hold of the plane with hundreds of other bags for the six-hour flight into London’s Heathrow Airport.

Mervat was traveling up the M1 highway in a taxi when she got a call from worried relatives back home saying that the cat was missing. The taxi pulled over and there was the cat, trembling and unnerved but otherwise unhurt, sitting in the baggage.

Bisou now has to sit in quarantine at Calagran Quarantine Kennels in Chesterfield until she can return to her family in Egypt this summer.

No one in security noticed the cat skeleton on the X-ray? I’m not taking my shoes off for those doofuses ever again.

At least she is safe and in good hands, and not missing in an airport or lost in a strange place.
