Misty Pietrzak and Baby were reunited at the Joplin MO Humane Society yesterday, after nearly 15 months spent apart in the aftermath of the May 22, 2011 tornado that destroyed a large swath of their community and displaced thousands of pets. Rescuers and other residents continue to maintain feeding stations for displaced cats, and Baby was found at a feeding station three blocks from her former home.
Misty told a local news crew from KOAM that she thought she would never see Baby again and it feels like she has gotten a family member back. “It’s like being reunited with your child again – our home will be complete again,” Misty said. “He was my sidekick and everything.”
JHS reminds others who are still missing their pets lost in the tornado or otherwise not to give up and to check with the shelter regularly, as new animals are brought in every day.
April Brill posted last night at Animals Lost & Found from the Joplin, MO Tornado on Facebook that Misty said Baby remembered her and is as lovable as always. The page remains active, as rescuers and other area residents continue to care for displaced tornado cats and, when possible, to help reunite them with their families. As the KOAM story reports, the Joplin Humane Society continues their efforts to reunite families with their missing tornado pets, as well.
