Bomb Scare Crisis Ends with Kittens and Meows

The bomb squad was called out Thursday night when a Wellston, OH woman thought domestic terrorism after seeing someone leave a taped up box near a neighbor’s porch. Four hours later the box was found to contain a litter of kittens.

Ruby Miller called authorities at 11 pm on Thursday night after witnessing something that did not look right, a young woman running down the street and dropping off a box. Ruby’s mind took the leap to terrorism, and she reported the incident as an emergency. Ruby’s call brought out fire, police, sheriff’s and emergency management personnel, who set up a bomb threat perimeter, evacuating a city block around the box, which was duct taped and had what are described as strange crayon markings on it. Columbus, OH sent their bomb squad, with a special bomb investigation robot to open the box.

By 3am the box was opened and revealed its contents: three small kittens, who had been left at the neighbor’s doorstep, along with a bag of cat food. Donna Smith, who first took the kittens, says the incident was an act of desperation that shows the need for a local cat shelter. The kittens are now in the care of municipal employee Melissa Humphries until they can find homes.

Thankfully this crew investigated (and carefully, of course) before blowing the box up.

I hope these cats find good homes.
