Cat's Protection UK National Cat Awards

Do you live in the UK, or maybe have some cat loving Facebook friends there? Entries are now open for the UK’s Feline Oscars – nominate your magnificent moggies!

The search is on for the UK’s favourite feline as charity Cats Protection launches its prestigious National Cat Awards 2012 – and organisers are on the prowl for nominations.

Widely known as the “Feline Oscars”, the awards are designed to celebrate real life stories of companionship, bravery and heroism in the cat world.

Owners have until Thursday 31 May to enter one of the four categories:

Hero Cat – Cats that save the day!
Best Friends – Where best feline friends have radically improved the quality of human life.
Most Incredible Story – Belief-defying, true stories from the cat world.
Outstanding Rescue Cat – Fabulous felines adopted from animal welfare organisations.

A new Celebrity Cat category has also been added to recognise superstar cats in the public eye. Cats Protection will be asking for suggestions on its Facebook page, which will be followed by an online poll on the site to determine the winner.

A glamorous awards ceremony will be held at a prestigious venue in London in August. The event will be attended by celebrity judges who will present the awards and pay tribute to the nation’s top cats.

Peter Hepburn, Cats Protection’s Chief Executive, said: “These awards highlight how cats make wonderful pets and enhance people’s quality of life so it was important they were opened up to honour all the nation’s cats. The stories we hear on a daily basis never fail to demonstrate the benefits cats bring to their owners and with around 6,000 fabulous cats in our care at any one time, Cats Protection can help you find your perfect companion.”
Entries now open for the Feline Oscars – nominate your magnificent moggies!

The winner of this year’s National Cat Awards will inherit the title from previous winner Marmite, a one-year-old puss from Fareham who became a ‘Moggy Midwife’ when his pregnant owner Lindsey Davies started having contractions while at home alone. He was also honoured for the vital support he gave Lindsey during a difficult pregnancy and for the affection he shows to baby Ruby.

To enter your cat’s story, please visit UK National Cat Awards Entry Page and fill out the entry form, or email [email protected] to request an entry form. Alternatively you can call the helpline on 03000 12 12 12 and select option five.

To nominate a Celebrity Cat please visit Cats Protection’s facebook page and post your suggestion on the wall referencing the National Cat Awards.
