Felix’s family had almost given up hope of ever seeing him again, when they got the call saying he had been found. Felix was lost for two years and was found 2 miles from home.  Thanks to his microchip and the shelter, he is back with his family again.

A cat missing for almost two years has been reunited with his family at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.  Felix mysteriously disappeared from his home in Harlesden, North West London in September 2010 and turned up at Battersea almost two years later after being found roaming the streets just two miles from his home. When Felix arrived at the charity staff scanned him for a microchip and were able to contact his family.

Nicholas Cochonneau, Felix’s owner says: “I couldn’t believe it when Battersea got in touch to tell us they had Felix. My partner and I almost gave up hope of ever seeing him again, and if it wasn’t for the microchip we’d never have found him. We’re baffled as to where he’s been all this time, but the main thing is he’s safe and sound and we’re able to take him home.”

It was thanks to Felix’s microchip that the Cochonneaus were able to find their lost pet. Only five per cent of cats that came through the charity’s doors last year were microchipped making it almost impossible for staff to find their worried owners. Liz McWalter, Head of Intake and Assessing at Battersea adds: “Microchipping is one of the most effective ways of making sure that you find your pet in the event it should go missing. If more animals were microchipped rescue centres like Battersea would be able to happily reunite more cats like Felix with their owners.”Those looking for information on finding lost pets can find visit Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s Lost Dogs and Cats service page.

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, established in 1860, aims never to turn away a dog or cat in need of our help. They reunite lost dogs and cats with their owners through a Lost Dogs & Cats Line or care for them until new homes can be found, giving them shelter and the highest standards of kennelling and veterinary care. Since it was founded, Battersea has rescued, reunited and rehomed over 3.1 million dogs and cats. In 2010 the Home cared for almost 7,000 dogs and 3,000 cats. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home receives no government funding and relies on the generosity and support of the public to help care for lost and abandoned dogs & cats.  In addition to the site in South West London, the Home also has two other centres based at Old Windsor, Berkshire and Brands Hatch, Kent.
