Co Woman Wins Battle to Have Her Cat Recognized as a Service Animal
Audrey Warden says her cat Millie helps her deal with the PTSD she suffers after years of domestic abuse. She was charged hundred dollars by her landlord, in fees that she could not pay. The fees were waived after a TV news report and a statement from Audrey’s counselor.
Audrey Warden won a dispute with the Longmont, Colorado apartment complex where she lives, over whether her cat is a legitimate service animal. When Audrey was charged several hundreds of dollars in fees in order to keep Millie in her apartment, she contacted the local news at NBC 9. After channel 9 ran a story on Thursday and Audrey’s counselor provided a document saying that Millie helps Audrey cope with her disability, the apartment complex management relented on Friday.
This marks a victory both for Audrey and Millie, and for the increasing acceptance of cats as legitimate service animals.
